The days are flying and we are readying for the trip to Montgomery and further south. It was a planning day with the schedule coming together, a trip to the Vet, Costco and the city bank. Then another to the grocery store for the sale of the week at Superstore - strip loin and a surprise sale price on prime rib with the meat cutter coming out to not only tell Lee about the surprise sale that didn't seem to be advertised anywhere but also to let her know that he had put one aside for her because there weren't many left. So along with the strip loins, a mighty impressive prime rib came through the door and landed on the table at dinner time. Ken was tickled.

The kennel is reasonably quiet with the presence of the 'ark dogs'. Everyone this week is here in pairs. Lucy and Baron the
Penaire Airedales are in residence for a week and are exercising both their legs and their lungs. They do love country living. Annie and Higgins are managing the kennel and delight in their power. The two mini dachshunds have arrived and brought their palace with them. They are hilarious. They are in and out of their screened home, swoop and chase and bark to tell us we are acceptable minions but far beneath their usual support staff. Their owners have gone to Europe for a month and we hope they might extend that trip - we all love dachshunds and these two are clowns that will keep us amused for the fall. Darby departed amidst waving paws and barks of good bye. His owners are also considering showing so he had a show update hair experience.
It was a rainy day so the
housedogs were in and out and not terribly amused. Paula is still focused on her little family - they have moved to the den and she wants to be in with them from time to time. However, she also wants to go back to the whelping room at every opportunity because she knows she lost her cute little puppies there and while these fat puppies are cute, they aren't as cute as her little puppies. Piper is delighted
to be back in the house and says she will never go to that dog hotel again because there are dogs in it!
John and Cathy joined us for dinner. The prime rib was accompanied by Ken's potatoes and roasted
parmesan tomatoes, peas and gravy and fresh peaches with ice cream and cake for dessert. Nobody left the table hungry.
