It was a better day than was forecast. There were sunny periods, showers began late evening and the dogs are happy. There was excitement late night as Billy discovered what appeared to be an interloper in his yard. The fortunate guest was high minded and Billy's yodels were directed skyward in the tree area. The remainder of the Regalridge crew were under house arrest - Patti notes she would have climbed that tree. Our Ken had an appointment to have his shoulder examined so Lee held the fort, sorting the whelping area so that Miss Marguerite would be comfortable when she decides to offer up the family. The birds were busy at the feeders as Our Ken returned to the house on the way to the garage and the mower. Phil and Philomena arrived at dinnertime to clean up the seed under the chestnut tree. Phil is resplendent at this time of year - the colours absolutely magnificent. He is without question the largest pheasant in Hants County - Our Ken has fed him well. With luck, he will return in November to spend another winter at Regalridge. The little swallows continue to enjoy life, adding bits to the already constructed nest and appearing pretty darned proud of their accomplishments.
The kennel is ticking along. Coby and Gabe manged the exercise yard with Dolly supervising the play. Sarah and Trebia coaxed Scarlett into a game and Scooter rooted for the winner - repeatedly. Miss Lola is ready to be bred.
The house crew managed nicely. Better than forecast weather meant more time outside - a bonus for all but particularly for our outside girl Miss Charlotte. Marguerite is giving some consideration to offering up puppies but has decided that hanging out in the kitchen with Lee trumps looking after a brood so is holding off for the moment. She is bright, active, eating well and enjoying the pregnancy. Lee had an evening meeting that put Piper out of sorts. There was a droopy Airedale at the door on Lee's return - Piper had anticipated that Lee had snuck out the front door with a suitcase so is much happier now that all of her chickens are in the roost.
Dinner was early - a homemade pasta with lobster sauce (sherry and thyme accented). That is the end of the lobster. Carrot cake was enjoyed by the male among us. All else is well.
