On this rainy day in NS, Phil and Philomena remain a fixture under the chestnut tree. May is generally the end of their visits until late fall so every day we have them is a pleasure. The purple and yellow finches seem to be increasing in number; the swallows chitter and swoop, enjoying the bugs and cleaning the yard to the pleasure of all; the jays and crows have Mexican stand-offs with the resident squirrel and all is well. By late afternoon the sun was seen occasionally, the dogs were lobbying to check the areas most apt to have been messed up and the property returned to normal. Our Ken managed, by early evening, to find gardens to work, giving in to the calling of the house only at dark. And yes, he is on medication for a neurological issue. . . Lee continues to monitor Marguerite. Marguerite, in turn, monitors Lee. Quid Pro Quo The weather forecast for the long week end is excellent, weather that will bring out the remaining blossoms. There are late tulips blooming, early apple trees covered in blossoms, lilacs just beginning and the magnolia is resplendent. The chestnut tree is only just bringing out its' candles so is a little behind and there are forget me nots everywhere. Blossoms are on the strawberries and the leaves are opening to their full summer size. The initial Vesey's order has been placed and Our Ken continues to pore over the vegetable catalogue interspersed with trips to any outlet he can think of looking for diatomacious lime.
The kennel is busier. Capone and Choppa have arrived and settled in as the two great APBT's are wont to do. Atlas Sr. is with us for the week end and is enjoying the space of the double run. He has joined Miss Scarlett and Coby. Lola is enjoying her vacation and is bright and happy.
The house crew took it easy as water came from the skies but were ready for a good spin as soon as it stopped. There were moments of panic - particularly as the meter reader walked up and down the yard and was spied by the ever alert Piper. Rain be darned, all were ready to let him know that his presence was less than welcome. Marguerite continues to race around, not yet ready to offer up her puppies. Her appetite is something legends are made of but our steady Veterinarian notes that it will be Friday/Saturday for the birth. We look forward to babies. Lola is now bred - a textbook heat and breeding.
Dinner was pub fare on this wet and cool evening. There were chicken wings in Zatarin's seasoned flour, seasoned potato wedges and corn on the cob followed bhy carrot cake. Earlier in the day, chocolate muffins were on offer - Chantelle popped up to help sort out the issue of muffins going stale.
