Wet days will give way to sun soon

It was a cool/cold day at Regalridge - no heavy rains but neither was there heat in the air.  The den stove stayed on and the dogs were appreciative.  Trapper Ken had taken a day off so no critters were transported in the light rain.  Instead, there was a trip to the outer reaches of the city for the alpha male.  Dawn and Chantelle joined the party for dinner and an update on the Ontario shows as well as a quick visit with handsome Mason.  Lee left the nursery for short periods and Marguerite allowed the absences.

The kennel is well and active.  Sarah and Lola are having adventures and are perhaps not the best combination for a restful day.  Viola stridently urges them on.  Naomi and Moses are packing, having hear that the city beckons.  Old Baily departed with a new spring in her step, able to jump up on Lee as she trotted to the gates to greet Faye.

The house crew preferred the stove and soft beds to the out of doors.  Patti had a few spins in the big yard, just to ensure that all was well.  Charlotte checked the antics of the resident squirrels and pronounced them silly, returning to the house rather than her step - a true commentary on the dampness.  Piper continues to improve, is brighter and happier but still with a way to go.  Marguerite is ever the stellar mother, looking after her family with a joy that is great to watch.  The babies are growing - another ounce for most on this day - with the smallest now 12 ounces and the largest 22.  Bottle feeding is accepted as a necessary supplementation - Marguerite approves and most puppies applaud the addition to their dining pleasure.

Dinner was interesting.  Pete's had offered up a meal that was divided among the four, supplemented by the lovely bread with guacamole, a Caesar salad and freshly made brownies.  All was well.

A cool and wet day brings us closer to the end of May

Showers were forecast and delivered.  It was a cool day with lots of activity.  Trapper Ken carried yet another banded interloper to the wilds of Hants county and set him free.  The project continues.  Both Lee and Ken had appointments and meetings so it was a two vehicle proposition.  Lee went to the city, had her adventures and managed a return on time and on budget to Regalridge.  Our Ken travelled to Truro, suit and tie attired, for a photo op and a meeting.  His return was later but less eventful.  Lee generally finds city center entertaining.  On this occasion, it was an underground parking garage.  City folk appear to get wound up over little things.  Having been pointed down a ramp by the attendant, her vehicle came to a stop at a downturn.  Within seconds, a young woman had advised Lee that there was a problem and it would be a minute before forward momentum could be achieved.  Lee settled to observe.  A man then appeared and stopped to report that he was seeking assistance and it would be a short wait.  This was followed by the aforementioned attendant reappearing, stopping to report that there seemed to be an issue to be resolved but that it wouldn't be long.  As He disappeared around the corner, a second woman appeared to advise that there was a "serious issue - the driver of the truck had been terribly rude to her daughter and that was not to be tolerated so their car was not moving".  That's more excitement than is seen in Belnan in a twelve month period.  Lee, apparently seen to be the interested fifth party, was highly appreciative of being kept abreast of the developments as they occurred  . . .  Medication must be available for this sort of thing.

The kennel is ticking along and all inhabitants are well and happy.  Showers were less frequent here than along the coast so dogs had more freedom to be outside than their city counterparts.  Coby approved.

The house crew were content to check out the beds in the den and assist Lee on her return to the country.  There were dinner preparations to be made and Piper, Abigail and Lori were of great help.  Patti had a good snooze and managed a decent meal at dinnertime.  Jack is on high alert now that Trapper Ken is in action.  The critters are maintained just below Jack's deck - a call to arms to any self-respecting Welsh.  The nursery is filled with puppy sounds and Marguerite is delighted with her family.  All are doing well, are gaining wieght steadily and enjoying the bottle feeding supplementation.  Generally there is at least one pup who declines the offer of food other than Mom's.  Not so with this bunch.  All eagerly take the bottles that are offered - and all eagerly move to join Marguerite each time she appears within their range.  Another few days and they will be ready to move downstairs.

Meals were quick early in the day but better thought out by dinner.  On offer was an international menu featuring garlic.  There was guacamole on offer with lovely french bread (avocados were perfectly ripe at Pete's).  With her secret ingredient, Our Ken enjoys this appetizer.  This was followed by an exceptionally good Cesar salad (lovely romaine at Pete's and shaved parm from an aged block kept in the back of the fridge for just such a salad).  Then there was garlic bread (again the lovely french loaf form Jonathon's was featured prominently) and fresh spaghetti with Lee's sauce.  Life is not all that bad.

Cool sunny days are a favourite

It was a cool day - perfect for setting blossoms and for lots of Airedale activity.  Trapper Ken managed yet another striped, furry friend in his live trap.  Chuffed that the trap has 'paid for itself' - an equation that perhaps only our engineer understands - this fellow, too, has been moved  deep in the woods of Hants county.  Rumour has it that another is lined up for the road trip . . .  Our Ken perseveres.  With any luck at all, this could be this year's summer project.  June was in residence, keeping a lid on things as Lee managed the puppy nursery and Our Ken bonded with the wildlife as he went to a Board meeting in Truro.  With the reduction in resident raccoons, the suet is actually allowed to stay among the feeders, much to the enjoyment of the early morning woodpeckers.  Lee is working on the list of folks interested in the Airedale litter, understanding that there may not be enough puppies to add one to each family interested.  The candles are almost full on the chestnut tree and resplendent in their number. The tree will be buzzing for a few days as every bee in the county arrives to admire the central point of the front yard.   Lilacs are blooming throughout the property, a backdrop to the late tulips and opening ferns.  Berries are in full flower and haying is occurring on the neighbouring farms.  It is a lovely time of year.

The kennel is perking along nicely.  Old bailey has heard that Faye is returning from the wild west so is packing her suitcase.  Faye will be pleased at her increased ability to move about.  Naomi and Moses are thriving, enjoying the big yard and settled nicely.  Coby and Gabe are great pals, playing adolescent Airedale games and checking out the competition - whether in the next yard, flying overhead or at the fruit stand across the road.  Barrett departed with a wave and a woo to Trebia.  Scarlett arrived.

Patti enjoyed June's company on her wanders around the yard.  Her appetite was perked up and the bowl of food on offer met her exacting standards at dinner time.  Piper is improving, has an increased activity level and a more consistent reproach for Lee as she remains downstairs when she should be in the bedroom.  She is not likely to easily forgive these slights and cares absolutely nothing about the nursery.  The Airedale litter is doing well - becoming more active and enjoying any and all attention on offer.  Marguerite is a focused and patient mother, pacing herself nicely with this significant family.  There will be a move to the whelping room in her future - at the point the smaller of the females adds a bit more girth.

Dinner was a Chantelle favourite- back ribs.  Added to this half day affair were potatoes and onions, sweet corn casserole and snap peas (as someone at the table noted that she doesn't like beans but these are good! . . .)  The chocolate chip cookies have officially disappeared.  Time to reposition.

Sundays keep everyone busy

Another lovely spring day, bringing gardening, grass mowing and trimming of all areas of the Regalridge grounds.  Trapper Ken continues to foil the efforts of the resident raccoons and will, yet again, travel the country roads to reposition one of his less than amused striped friends.  This new spring/summer activity is likely bringing lots of comment from the resident birds.  Jack is amused and checks every morning from his deck to assess the efficacy of the hunt.  Lee remains sequestered for most of her time with Marguerite and the family.  The property was hopping with people coming and going - six for lunch and four for dinner.

The kennel is holding stable.  Old Bailey is managing well, enjoying her improved mobility and access to the large yards.  Sarah has decided that rather than tunneling, perhaps being high minded would better suit her exploits.  Having predicted this, Alex has plans.  Trebia and Barrett have had their races mapped, run and celebrated.  Barrett has even developed a couple of new tunes to sing to Trebia lauding her achievements.  Lola and Viola are attempting to join Barrett in song - Barrett is far superior and better tuned up.  Naomi and Moses are shaking their heads at the youngsters and enjoying the big runs with the open views - a novelty to city dogs.

The house crew are managing quite nicely.  Patti has had her ups and downs this week but seems to have rebounded somewhat, thanks to Sarah's ministrations.  Piper is on the upswing, not amused by the after care provided by Lee and particularly incensed that Marguerite has usurped her pride of place in the bedroom.  The babies are doing well.  Growing at least an ounce per day, each is beautiful.  Each is now accepting of the baby bottle with goat's milk based formula and Marguerite is more understanding of the fact that this supplementation is a support to her rather than a commentary on her skills as a mother.  She continues to look to Lee as a personal servant - nodding to the door when she decides that there is a need to check the property.  She is a beautiful Airedale with her lovely head and expressive dark eyes.  Add to that a mischievous grin and wagging tail and Marguerite is explained well.

Meals were plentiful and the great coffee maker did triple duty.  There were yogourt pancakes and bacon for lunch for the crowd.  Nobody left the table hungry.  There were chocolate chip cookies (browned butter, bittersweet and milk chocolate chips and toasted walnuts).  And there was a steak or pork chip option for dinner with corn on the cob, riced potatoes and honeyed carrots.  Then back to Marguerite.

Great weather and fulfilled Airedales

The weather continues to be a good news story.  Absolutely perfect would be the forecast and it delivered.  That offered up a full day for Our Ken to garden, sort out his workloads and move the property forward to summer.  Bulbs ordered earlier in the spring were planted, gardens tilled and readied and hoses full connected.  The dogs love these days, white hats firmly planted between Airedale ears, there is supervision beyond even the Department of Transportation's level.  Chantelle spent her day between the house and kennel, shaking her head as often as not at the antics of people and dogs alike.  The swallows are settled in the eaves over the kitchen door and the nesting looks not to be far off.  The fun of flying with gay abandon over the orchard is soon to change to focused flights to gather insects to feed first mother swallow and then the brood to be.

The kennel is perking along.  Naomi and Moses are well and happy, enjoying the exercise yard and their own space as seasoned boarding dogs tend to do.  Viola is urging Lola to even greater feats of vocalization, both enjoying the playback offered by the building.  Barrett and Trebia are racing as Barrett and Trebia are wont to do, the big Gordon Setter delighting in the speedy little Cirneco.  Old Bailey is moving at speed now and apparently feeling better than when she arrived. That is great to see.

The house crew remain off base with the loss of Lee to Marguerite.  Mom and Airedales babies are thriving with the attention being showered on them and Marguerite is taking full advantage of her personal support staff.  Babies weigh in determined that everyone had gained one ounce in 24 hours so all is well in the nursery.  The big boys are up to 17 ounces while the girls begin the weigh in at 11.  The average gain is four ounces in this their first full week of life.  Marguerite has lots to be proud of.  Her one week request was for a spin in the big yard.  This was provided and well enjoyed, evne though Marilla firmly noted that she was shirking her responsibilities.   Piper is quite certain that tunnels must be excavated to check on the weather in the Orient.  She is doing her part.  Chantelle found out with certainty that the top step entering the house belongs to Charlotte and was summarily dismissed when she mistakely tried to encourage Miss Charlotte to move from her roost.

Dinner was grilled steak, fiddleheads and new potatoes - fiddleheads are such a short season and so enjoyed that they become the stock-in-trade veg for the couple of weeks that they are available.  There were early morning muffins (pear-cranberry) for all who were at Regalridge on this lovely day.  And we look forward to another day

May is a lovely month in NS

The weather is spring-perfect with bright cool days that spread joy among the Airedales.  Regalridge stays busy with the puppies claiming much of Lee's time and the gardens calling Ken's name.  The late tulips are lovely in multi-hued shades of pink and white, red and yellow and ivory.  Lilac are blooming, scenting the area throughout the property and underscored by many other shrubs.  The magnolia holds its beautiful flowers and the leaves are full on all of the trees.  The birds enjoy the increased density of cover and are multiplying.  It seems the little purple finches are staying for the season to keep company with the yellow finches and chickadees at the kitchen feeders.  The hummingbird feeders are hung and the pheasants are still appearing with frequency under the chestnut tree.   The candles on the chestnut tree are beginning to bloom so buzzing will be the order of the day by early next week as the bees work their magic.  Last year's pansies have come up again to join the violas and ferns in the sun and shade gardens.  And bulbs are being planted at a great rate.  Veseys sent not only the bulbs ordered but also bags of 'extras' at no charge.  Our Ken is tickled.

The kennel ticks along.  Little Bella has departed so Lola has had to take things in her capable paws.  No doubt Bella would feel there is a deterioration of authority but Lola, backed up by the vocal stylings of Viola, is doing her best.   Old Bailey is well and moving much better than when she arrived.  She has her own routine and defies anyone who tries to take her through the wrong door to walk to the exercise yard or on the wrong leash - she firmly sits until there is an understanding that a girl uses her own leash or none!  Coby and Gabe are managing yard three with young Airedale games, oversight provided by an older Airedale at all times.  Sarah and Trebia are playing but the big news is the arrival of Barrett.  Trebia is thrilled, but not as thrilled as her boyfriend Barrett.  Naomi and Moses are in residence and settled.

The house dogs are getting along although the loss of Lee to Marguerite's support staff is not sitting well with some.  Piper is improving with the help of her outstanding veterinary care and Lee's follow up ministrations.  She is not amused that the bedroom is off limits.  The rest are manging with the good weather and the ability to reinstate summer games.  There is increased incidence of tag, hide and seek and tunnel to the center of the earth - all being played simultaneously in the center yard, sometimes by the same dog.  Marguerite is having a heck of a good time with this litter.  Having Lee at her beck and call tickles her fancy.  Not one to be bashful, she shares here thoughts freely, looking Lee in the eye if she is sitting down, Airedale feet firmly planted on Lee's knees and the unblinking stare speaking volumes.   There are many front yard strolls necessary to her emotional well being - not for any particular reason other than to admire the gardens, count the cars going by or checking that the fruit stand is adequately busy.  If there is a bathrooming to occur, she marches Lee to the run off of the den, opens the door herself and is quick to perform, looking for the lead as soon as she is done so that the wander can continue.  Today there was an added stroll through the orchard and up to the kennel building, sticking her nose through the fence to say 'hi'.  Lola and Viola responded with alacrity - imagine that.  The litter is doing well.  All are gaining weight, the little girls all now between 9 and 11 ounces.  The boys are consistently heavier, between 12 and 17 ounces.  The two big fellows have been consistent in out pacing their brothers and sisters, have a lot of bone even at 6 days old and will be Clint-like as adults.  All are active and today was the day to have their pup collar adjusted to add about 2.5 cm to each, a good indicator of their growth.  All enjoy Mom's milk best but also agree that Lee's offer of goat's milk formula supplementation is a good second.

Meals are improving with Lee being able to leave the litter for increased periods.  Dinner, though, was the finishing up of the bounty of the previous evening.  This night there was the chicken pie (rosemary and mushroom based in a wine sauce), NS pork pie, crab cake and salads with french bread.  Our Ken, King of the Spud and feeling chuffed by his success in foraging, commented that "this was a great  change from the standard meat and potato"  . . . apparently, he has learned to cook.

Warm weather brings full leaves - finally

Life can get busy - fast.  Lee is the full time support crew for Miss Marguerite, bowing to her every whim and helping care for the large family.  Add to that the regular day and things ramp up quickly.  Add to that an event and the tipping point is waving madly.  Lee began the event filled day by flooding the kitchen.  Lack of sleep can do wonders for unplanned cleaning.  There was enough liquid to assure Abigail that she did not, in fact, covet an indoor pool.  Our Ken (aka Festus the Trapper) managed to catch another raccoon.  Having had Lee stumble over one on an early morning sortie with Marguerite launched the alpha male of the house into action.  Mr raccoon was less than impressed by his new accommodation and seemed to feel the cat food on offer was an insufficient prize, second only to his disappointment at the significant journey to his new stomping grounds.  This is predicted to be a summer activity of some frequency.  The report on Festus' return to Regalridge was that once the trap door opened, Mr raccoon had the after burners on and didn't even wave good by.  Then it was on to the Vet to collect Piper who is home and recovering from her little excursion.  Since it was a special day at Regalridge, hunting and gathering moved up a notch.  Our Ken was pointed in a specific direction and returned with plunder fit for the occasion.

The kennel is perking along.  Coby and Gabe are enjoying the big yard, with the accompaniment of a senior Airedale to keep them somewhat in line.  Scarlett is enjoying Bailey the Golden - senior moments abound but the old girls approve of the warm weather on the aging joints.  Bailey i certainly improved with the addition of Glyco Flex to her regimen.  Lola is delighted to have Viola to emulate.  With energy to burn and a deep understanding of the kennel routine, both share their thoughts on any and all activities in their purview.  Little Bella is in charge of the whole shootin match and rules with a firm tiny paw.

The house crew is upside down with the changes that have occurred.  Marguerite has usurped the bedroom, turning out Marilla, Lori, Piper and Billy a well as the omnipresent Einstein.  Likely Einstein is the most affronted but Marilla is certain the humans have completely lose their minds.  Billy is simply miffed.  Lori is heartbroken and Piper is not feeling well enough to honestly care much to this point.  Her recovery will be complete when she puts up a usual Piper fuss.  Conversely, Marguerite is tickled with her full time support person, her position of centrality and her ability to share her thoughts so freely.  Certainly, Lee has a complete understanding of the number of steps from the second to third floor, of the nooks and crannies in the front yard and of the impact of lack of sleep on an otherwise relatively normal human.  Chantelle is no longer an alien from Marguerite's perspective and has been accepted as occasional visitor as long as she recognizes Marguerite immediately that she enters the room and offers adequate homage.  The litter is doing well - puppies are growing, getting stronger by the day and more mobile.  Already, it appears that green collar will be the traveller, finding his way about the area on a regular basis and being corralled by Marguerite and Lee as he checks out the bedroom.  Others are far less interested in adventure, preferring to concentrate on the next meal.  Prying taupe, grey or tan from Marguerite is like moving well positioned velcro apart.

While meals have been catch as catch can since Sunday, this evening was the turning point.  There was champagne a la Ken.  This was followed by lovely Greek salad.  Then there was a shared repast of crab cakes, chicken pie with a rosemary wine base, fabulous tortiere, pork pie and Jonathan's croissants.  Dessert was proffered as eyes rolled.  Our Ken excels at hunting and gathering.

Wet weather helps the farmers

The weather was a bit wet - not a bad thing given summer in the offing and water tables that are not high.  Grass is growing at a great rate, trees are filling in with leaves and flowering trees are blooming.  There are still late tulips.  The candles have formed on the chestnut tree but are not yet in bloom.  The magnolia has been magnificent, an amazing thing given it's first year on the property.  The resident pheasants are still in the front yard, underwhelmed by Lee and Marguerite's comings and goings.  Einstein is out of sorts, having only the majority of the house to roam and not able to sleep in his best spots upstairs due to the arrival of the puppies.   Our Ken is working to trap and release a resident raccoon  - all is normal at Regalridge.

The kennel is well and happy.  Coby is keeping Gabe occupied.  Scarlett is back for the week and looking after Bailey.  Bailey is now on Glyco Flex and is moving about with much greater ease.  Bella is in charge of everything and happy to oblige.  Lola is sharing her thoughts freely, egged on by little Viola.  The two have a regular party going on.

Piper had a hiccup and is with our Vet for a couple of days.  Lee is working with Marguerite and her new family so wouldn't have been sleeping anyway.  The Airedale babies are doing well and Marguerite is thriving.  Lots of attention and a full time person to do her bidding lives up to Marguerite's exacting expectations.  This is a period of welcoming the little ones to the world, ensuring each is eating well and beginning to gain weight.  They are beautiful puppies - perhaps all puppies are beautiful but we each love our own breed - and are enjoying being hand fed as well as taking all that their mother has to offer.  Marilla heard that thunder storms were forecast for the late evening and requested her thunder shirt.  The rest of the crew chuckled.

Meals are quick  - the very good Chinese restaurant in the village helped out today.

The litter has arrived

Well, life is busy.  The weather is great, the season is progressing at speed and evenings are incredibly lovely.  Lawns are being mowed repeatedly, with the scent of freshly mown grass permeating the air.  The swallows are enjoying the weather and are as friendly as can be - almost agreeing to being patted as people go in and out the back door.  With the little characters enjoying the evening black outs and Charlotte positioning herself across the top step, there is plenty of opportunity for exciting kitchen entrances.

The kennel has been busy as is usual for the long week end in May.  Settling after the holiday Monday, Miss Bella is in residence, managing the kennel with all three pounds of her experience and focused energy.  Coby is impressed.  Old Bailey has opened the geriatric ward and includes Moses and Naomi in her undertakings.  The three old dogs are well content with the kennel routine and are settled nicely.

The big news with the Regalridge dogs is the advent of Marguerite's litter.  Our Marguerite is the soul of thoughtfulness, having her litter through the day rather than the norm of late night arrivals.  Beginning mid-morning, the little Airedales began to arrive quickly - five in the first hour.  Following that the arrivals were more evenly spaced, almost allowing Lee to catch her breath between puppies.  As is Marguerite's wont, the balance of males and females is maintained.  On day two, the puppies were better identified with coloured necklaces being sported by all.  Given the number of mouths to feed, some supplementation is required even this early so Our Ken made a trip to the store to collect new baby bottles and additional nipples (don't you wish you had been there for that hunt?!).  Goat's milk will now be the order of the day as formula is prepared and appetites increase.  Marguerite is a fabulous mother, maintaining a calm and even demeanour in the face of this exceptional brood.

Dinners have been catch as catch can with Lee rather occupied.  A quick fiddlehead, new potato and pork chop meal was managed with late night ice cream to accompany the late night outdoor run with the new Mom.

Great weather greets the long week end

The forecast for a lovely long week end of weather seems to be bearing fruit.  Sun and twenty one degrees bring smiles and happy dogs.  Even Phil and Philomena spent the day in the front yard, under the chestnut tree or back and forth across the grass, feather shining and appearing to be aware of their beauty.  With their increased activity, the Airedales were at the fence to cheer them on.  Our Ken spent the day romping from garage to kennel to fields to garage to gardens.  There is a suspicion that the garage runs were to repair whatever it was that broke at each stop.  It was a day to hang clothes on the line, to grill all meals and enjoy the outdoors.  The little woodpeckers are busy at the Virginia suet that is protected by Our Ken who removes it to the bar b cue each evening, returning it to the tree when he surfaces in the morning - the critters of the night are not getting his special suet again!

The kennel is just busy enough.  Atlas is enjoying his vacation and is best friends with Lola.  Capone and Choppa were delighted to see Sarah and Alex - these star boarders are lucky dogs, removed from the SPCA by a great fellow and well suited to life in Hants county.  Scarlett is settled and working with Sarah and Trebia to organize number four yard.  Scooter had a little spin as Alex held the gate open for her.  A coup in Scooter's world is a good thing.  Coby and Gabe are managing yard three with puppy abandon, delighted in their good luck in finding a pal that looks like him.

The house crew are well and happy.  Marguerite continues to hold the puppies inside, enjoying her special treatment, house food and overall improved status.   Piper is less amused.  With luck, the week end will bring puppies.  Patti continues to thrive, delighted that her children were in residence for the day and keeping a very close eye on Sarah to ensure she didn't embarrass herself unduly .  Charlotte holds the fort on the kitchen step.  Marilla had a spa day and looks fabulous, a good thing after her exceptional greeting on seeing Alex.  Jack also darkened the door of the spa - more reluctantly - but is happy with the outcome.  Little does he know that this is a work in progress and that there is more to come.  June supervised Lee's trim of the little fellow and shook her head at the antics.  Rocky and Billy alternated in the big yards and the den, both preferring the den to the big sky.

Dinner included grilled salmon, new potatoes, fiddleheads and an assortment of desserts.  Our Ken is content.

Rain gave way to good weather

On this rainy day in NS, Phil and Philomena remain a fixture under the chestnut tree.  May is generally the end of their visits until late fall so every day we have them is a pleasure.  The purple and yellow finches seem to be increasing in number; the swallows chitter and swoop, enjoying the bugs and cleaning the yard to the pleasure of all; the jays and crows have Mexican stand-offs with the resident squirrel and all is well.  By late afternoon the sun was seen occasionally, the dogs were lobbying to check the areas most apt to have been messed up and the property returned to normal.  Our Ken managed, by early evening, to find gardens to work, giving in to the calling of the house only at dark.  And yes, he is on medication for a neurological issue. . .  Lee continues to monitor Marguerite.  Marguerite, in turn, monitors Lee.  Quid Pro Quo  The weather forecast for the long week end is excellent, weather that will bring out the remaining blossoms.  There are late tulips blooming, early apple trees covered in blossoms, lilacs just beginning and the magnolia is resplendent.  The chestnut tree is only just bringing out its' candles so is a little behind and there are forget me nots everywhere.  Blossoms are on the strawberries and the leaves are opening to their full summer size.  The initial Vesey's order has been placed and Our Ken continues to pore over the vegetable catalogue interspersed with trips to any outlet he can think of looking for diatomacious lime.

The kennel is busier.  Capone and Choppa have arrived and settled in as the two great APBT's are wont to do.  Atlas Sr. is with us for the week end and is enjoying the space of the double run.  He has joined Miss Scarlett and Coby.  Lola is enjoying her vacation and is bright and happy.

The house crew took it easy as water came from the skies but were ready for a good spin as soon as it stopped.  There were moments of panic - particularly as the meter reader walked up and down the yard and was spied by the ever alert Piper.  Rain be darned, all were ready to let him know that his presence was less than welcome.  Marguerite continues to race around, not yet ready to offer up her puppies.  Her appetite is something legends are made of but our steady Veterinarian notes that it will be Friday/Saturday for the birth.  We look forward to babies.  Lola is now bred - a textbook heat and breeding.

Dinner was pub fare on this wet and cool evening.  There were chicken wings in Zatarin's seasoned flour, seasoned potato wedges and corn on the cob followed bhy carrot cake.  Earlier in the day, chocolate muffins were on offer - Chantelle popped up to help sort out the issue of muffins going stale.

Comings and Goings but no puppies yet

It was a better day than was forecast.  There were sunny periods, showers began late evening and the dogs are happy.  There was excitement late night as Billy discovered what appeared to be an interloper in his yard.  The fortunate guest was high minded and Billy's yodels were directed skyward in the tree area.  The remainder of the Regalridge crew were under house arrest - Patti notes she would have climbed that tree.  Our Ken had an appointment to have his shoulder examined so Lee held the fort, sorting the whelping area so that Miss Marguerite would be comfortable when she decides to offer up the family.  The birds were busy at the feeders as Our Ken returned to the house on the way to the garage and the mower.  Phil and Philomena arrived at dinnertime to clean up the seed under the chestnut tree.  Phil is resplendent at this time of year - the colours absolutely magnificent.  He is without question the largest pheasant in Hants County - Our Ken has fed him well.  With luck, he will return in November to spend another winter at Regalridge.  The little swallows continue to enjoy life, adding bits to the already constructed nest and appearing pretty darned proud of their accomplishments.

The kennel is ticking along.  Coby and Gabe manged the exercise yard with Dolly supervising the play.  Sarah and Trebia coaxed Scarlett into a game and Scooter rooted for the winner - repeatedly.  Miss Lola is ready to be bred.

The house crew managed nicely.  Better than forecast weather meant more time outside - a bonus for all but particularly for our outside girl Miss Charlotte.  Marguerite is giving some consideration to offering up puppies but has decided that hanging out in the kitchen with Lee trumps looking after a brood so is holding off for the moment.  She is bright, active, eating well and enjoying the pregnancy.  Lee had an evening meeting that put Piper out of sorts.  There was a droopy Airedale at the door on Lee's return - Piper had anticipated that Lee had snuck out the front door with a suitcase so is much happier now that all of her chickens are in the roost.

Dinner was early - a homemade pasta with lobster sauce (sherry and thyme accented).  That is the end of the lobster.  Carrot cake was enjoyed by the male among us.  All else is well.

Our Ken managed a coup

All is well in the world of Regalridge.  Weather continues to be typical of NS spring - cool and bright days that support lots of canine activities.  Lee spent the day working through Our Ken's list - the need for a birthday cake for a daughter, gifts to be wrapped, etc. etc.   To assist in the preparations, Our Ken went to Truro for a meeting.  Juggling lists, dogs and the house, paperwork and the phone made for an interesting period, followed by a fast trip to the city and return to Regalridge by early evening.  Satisfied with the outcomes, the alpha male moved on to his next list - Lee demurred.   The little swallows are busy - sitting on their wire, soaring over the strawberry patch and finally perching next to their upgraded nest, all seems well in their swallow-world.  Fortunately the nest is high enough and close enough to the eave that the catbird spotted in the yard would be highly challenged trying to deposit an egg in that nest.  The bird family is at its height this month with the summer birds returned and the regulars still in residence.  Philomena was under the chestnut tree today, in good feather and pleasingly plump.  Our Ken is fussing about Costco's annual timing of the withdrawal of bird food - having only sunflowers seed from April on.  There is the threat that next year there will be a pallet of bird food purchased in March.  Costco food seems a good blend for the resident birds - the grocery store variety or the bags sold at the feed store seem less palatable, making Our Ken less than happy and we all live to keep Our Ken content.  And then there was the sweater.  After 30 years, it should be self-evident that the male among us has many red sweaters and doesn't always differentiate among them.  On this day, with Lee managing most activity, the less than discerning Ken managed to make it to the city - with his kennel sweater.  There had been a commitment to dinner in the city after the work of the day - Lee was heard to mutter that she wouldn't even go through McDonald's drive through with him in that garb.  The talking phone book was dialed (that would be Chantelle) and dinner ordered for pick up.  Hmph.  (It's a good trick Tony but don't over use it)

The kennel is perking along.  Coby and Gabe are best friends and are plotting as only puppy Airedales can do.  Their birthdays are coming so the hope is that it is only birthday gifts that are on their minds - yeah, right.  Scarlett is keeping an eye on the pair, thinking back to the days that she could plot at that level with Marilla backing her up.

The house dogs are well and happy.  Patti is in middle-age mode, is easily moving about and eating well, an amazing feat given all that she has faced.  We value these days.   Jack is bright and enjoying some time out on his deck, admiring the birds, and in the evening listening to the peepers.  The little frogs are loud enough that it is hard to have a conversation on the deck at this time of year.  Marguerite is preparing to welcome her puppies into the world.  It won't be long now; she is trimmed up and settling nicely.  Lola is continuing her runs into the city for progesterone and is almost ready to be bred.  She is a lovely dog with an impressive pedigree so it is hoped will offer equally impressive puppies this summer.

Dinner was hunted on the way home from the city - enough said.

It was a spring day - sunny with cool breezes.  the tulips are blooming - some coming to their seasonal climax, underlying the fruit trees resplendent with blossoms and leaves now noticeable although not full on most trees.  The early growth was stayed by the late April and early May rains so it is back to the regular schedule.  Grass is being mowed and the dandelion crop is strong.  On the trip across the county Sunday, full fields were solidly marked with the vibrant and ubiquitous spring weed.  Phil the pheasant returned to his spot under the chestnut tree early - the first sighting for several weeks and always a welcome sight.  Lee took Lola for her trip to the Vet for blood work early in the morning.  On the return of the Regalridgemobile, a lobster lunch was made and a trip to the nursing home made.  Shelagh is very, very fond of lobster, melted butter and chocolate mousse.  There was some conversation between bites but not much until the last of the meal.  Speech continues to improve, effort bringing good results in recalling specific words and in being able to find the method to pronounce them given the aftereffects of the stroke.  While somewhat gaunt, Shelagh is in reasonably good humour and certainly is keeping track of who has and has not been to visit . . .  Chantelle?!  She is awaiting cataract surgery and until that occurs is coping with very limited sight, unable to see her computer screen or television.  Certainly, the surgery will re-open her world and is much looked forward to.

The kennel is ticking along.  Miss Sarah found her way to visit Ken in the grooming room, much to Our Ken's delight.  The afternoon was spent hammering.  Marguerite has been trimmed in anticipation of her delivery within the week.  She is as happy as an Airedale can be, running in the yard and carrying her family with gay abandon.  Coby is enjoying his plays with Gabe and Marilla.  Scarlett has Lola firmly convinced that she knows everything and will share that deep knowledge if Lola plays nice.

The house crew love this weather.  Twenty three degree highs with breezes ensures Charlotte is out until the sun goes down.  The smile is on her face even as she sleeps.  Einstein spent his day busily hunting socks, announcing each conquest in the loudest of feline howls.  The dogs were on full alert, amazed at his prowess.  There were many games of ball and chase - instigated by Gabe and Dolly.  Dolly is quite certain she won every game.  Gabe doesn't care as long as the chase is on.

Dinner was grilled chicken souvlaki, new potatoes, a tomato-fresh parm scallop and corn on the cob.  All is well.

Good weather, good friends and great food - all is well

Mother's Day in Nova Scotia often is very cool.  Not so this year.  The weather was cloudy with sun breaking through, cool but not very cool.  Plans had been made to marry up Digby with Hants county.  Chantelle brought everyone together, divested of her young ward and got everyone fed, all in one fell swoop.  Bob and Luella had a little scenic tour of West Hants, offering up lots of opportunities for the rest of the assembly to exchange news through the early courses of the meal.  It is always a treat to attend one of Doris' brunches in Somerville.  The bread alone is worth the drive.  While many returned to the tables for a second course, Our Ken and Lee feasted on a second roll.  This was the locale for Ken's foray into the non-recommended dessert that resulted in his silver dollar sized carrot cake morsel.  This trip he was more savvy - resulting in apple pie and, wait for it, carrot cake in a full size portion.  This cannot come close to the nine desserts he managed at the Jefferson, to the waiter's absolute amazement, but at least satisfied the sweet tooth among us.  Everyone else had hazelnut cake and/or cheesecake, except for little Taylor who opted for the seasonal rhubarb pie.  Home again, home again to content dogs and lobster that Our Ken had hunted and gathered earlier in the day.  There are so many benefits to living in NS.  The little swallows are putting an addition on their already deep nest which may result in Madam swallow having to lose weight to enter and exit if they aren't careful.  The nest is already close to the roof beams but these industrious little birds seem well aware that a catbird has been spotted and are securing their residence accordingly.

The kennel is ticking along.  Miss Scarlett arrived to keep Lola and Coby company.  Coby had Gabe, Charlotte and Lori with him for a major game in the afternoon.  That was a great hit with the young fellow.

The house dogs are well.  Patti is running the property with alacrity and playing ball whenever it is allowed.  She is feeling very well, spry and with good appetite.  Everyone is tickled.  The other old dogs are well; Charlotte is chuffed that she has found the ultimate control point of the property and unwillingly gives way when the humans among us insist she move from her perch, splayed across the top step going to the kitchen door.  Dolly was completely undone by the lobster process.  Shells were so hard that a hammer was employed - hammers and Dolly are not a good combination.  Marilla didn't like it but understood that if Our Ken was wielding the weapon, she was likely pretty safe.  Poor Dolly was not at all certain of that pronouncement and almost lost her mind, trying to crawl inside Lee for safety.  That did not amuse Piper who owns Lee inside and out.  Life is never dull.

Dinner, of course, was lobster with a tomato blue cheese salad and homemade bread.  Life is good.

The return of the swallows

Another day of sun  and pleasant temperatures brought a fllurry of activity - in the air.  The swallows have arrived.  Lee, up and about early, thought she heard the little birds at sunrise but given the date put it out of her mind.  Sure enough, on return from the city, Our Ken reported the sighting and Mrs Swallow is now ensconced in her nest over the kitchen door.  That's it for lights until after flight school.  Patti will not be amused.  It is the week end of the Dartmouth shows.  Logan has done well with two Group wins.  He is in fabulous coat and is his usual up and at 'em self.  Lunch at Hungry Jack's is an annual tradition and always enjoyed by all present.  This trip, Chantelle had her lovely niece visiting.  Taylor was introduced to Costco, dog shows and Hungry Jack's - a lot for a young lady to take in in one day but she managed with aplomb.

The kennel is well under control.  Our Ken has a list of projects and all is well in his world.  Without that list, it is hard to say where we would be.  Lola is keeping Sarah somewhat amused now that the interior fencing has our girl with wanderlust completely stymied.  Coby continues to dream of catching and passing Trebia.  The Hound is not concerned.

The house dogs are well and Clementine is leading the humans a merry chase.  Her woofs outlining requirements are frequent and insistent.  Speaking Clem is an art.  All around her learn.  Piper was not amused that Lee was missing most of the day and shared her displeasure with her buddies.  The neighbours had a horse grazing on their front lawn mid-morning, a big warmblood on the knoll, impressive enough to really tick Patti off.  Miss Patti caught a glimpse of the big fellow over the gates, lifted her head and marched down the drive, warning him in no uncertain terms that he was completely out of order and to remove himself immediately.  Sadly, the animal was so focused on the new grass that he took no notice of the Airedale urgings.

There was a quick batch of lemon blueberry scones put together early in the morning.  Our Ken approved.  Dinner was a quick pan fry of ham, new potatoes, Vidalias and snaps.  Life could be worse.

A fabulous spring day

The sun came out.  It is still yellow, warm and bright.  It makes flowers bright, encourages leaves to open and is an all round help in bringing wagging tails and smiles.  Our Ken is over achieving - imagine that - with a very sore shoulder that might improve with rest, not that we are likely going to be able to prove that hypothesis.  Flowers are blooming, birds are singing and summer additions are now at the feeders.  The shite throat sparrow has arrived, joining the yellow finches and the red finch-like bird remains.  It seems time for the swallows to return, always a harbinger of summer.

The kennel was busy with little jobs being added and sorted.  By evening the rooms had been put to rights, washes finished, floors cleaned and shelves righted.  The dogs approved, having offered extensive supervision.  Only Scooter was put off by the activity, unable to go outside for fear that someone would touch her 'stuff'.

The house crew delighted in the improved weather.  Charlotte spent the day snoozing, laid out on the top concrete step leading to the back door.  Now that poses a slight problem for any person or canine wanting to enter or leave the house - Charlotte rules!  Abigail had a trim, pedicure and general spring cleaning.  She is happy to advise that she lived through it and will pay Lee back on a regular basis.  Marguerite continues to thrive, getting larger by the minute at this stage.  Lola is having progesterone testing done and will be bred this month.  It will be a two Airedale year at Regalridge.

Dinner was again spring fare - grilled lamb chops, new potatoes and fiddleheads with cream of balsamic.  Chocolate mousse rounded out the meal and all is well in Our Ken's world.

Real rain

Rain - lots and lots of rain.  It was a day for hunting and gathering,  Pulled from reality by a ray of sunshine, Our Ken made it to the gates without a jacket, Lee walking to the Regalridgemobile with outer wear for both.  Our Ken was appreciative as the deluge broke a few kilometers later.  Laden with dog food, fruits and vegetables, the vehicle found Regalridge by late afternoon.  Our Ken also bought dirt - like that was necessary.  A visit with Reg and a good by to the favourite server at the favourite restaurant rounded out the trip.  Hugs all around were dispensed and the server's imminent move to Labrador discussed over plates of clams.

The kennel is quiet with the departure of the focused little Welsh.  Coby is holding the fort, having learned the ropes from the best.   Sarah encourages him to direct his energies to assisting in analyzing potential for an escape route from the big yard.  Coby demurs.  Trebia dances around Sarah, encouraging her efforts but hoping for a good chase.  Her boyfriend is due for a visit.

The house dogs are thriving.  Clementine was dropped off early morning for a week end visit.  She immediately claimed the best bed, woofed her way to breakfast, fresh water, biscuits and ins and outs, noting that water falling from the sky is not to her liking - would we please fix that.  The regular den crew realigns with Clem in residence, gingerly walking around Her Highness as she trolls for any reason to complain.  Rocky is settling back to a routine change with Billy's return.  Leaving Billy along the road would be much more to Rocky's liking.

Dinner was a spring event - fabulous salmon steaks, snaps, new potatoes and ice cream.  And we are on to the end of the work week

Wet weather will give way to summer soon

All is well in the land of rain and mud.  The wet season generally slows after April showers so this extension well into May is a surprise.  Our Ken worried that his tulips would bloom during the trip to Virginia - not so.  Wet blooms abound.  With the showers, the alpha male was forced to content himself with the garage - who knows what goes on in that building but certainly there are no cars parked there so there is room to tunnel and hoard.  Organizing appears to consist of moving the same objects from one area to another in some sort of sequence known only to men.  The dogs alternated between gathering at the fence to watch the back and forth and returning to the saner house activity to dry out and add muddy footprints to give Lee something to clean.  Thoughtful crowd, these Airedales.  During the Virginia hiatus, the resident raccoon was trapped in a live trap and carried several miles down the country road to be sent on his way into the woods.  Well, another has taken his place.  the birds lose their suet cakes to these critters and having them wander the property is not a good thing.   Our Ken will have to put on his Davy Crockett boots and make that trap earn its oats.

The kennel emptied out with Poe and the Welsh departing with a wave and a kick of the heels.  Coby is relieved to see the end of Marged and Shillelagh and has suggested to Sarah that they could be best friends.  Sarah is very busy, however, assessing her options vis-a-vis the new fence in yard four.  She is pretty certain there is an escape route if only she can find it.  Lola tracks her progress and Trebia ignores it all wondering where in heaven's name a dog could go that would offer a better lifestyle.

The house crew are not amused by the water coming from the sky.  Charlotte is giving it the old college try but admits that being wet for extended periods is no fun, even for our outdoor girl.  Patti has developed the Goldilocks syndrome.  The beds are stacked in the morning to provide some hope of getting through the den without landing on a dog.  Patti tries stack after stack to find the perfect spot for an old girl, sometimes finishing three feet off the floor on beds four deep.

Dinner was a favourite - all afternoon cooked ribs made with a mesquite rub and special sauce, new potatoes and peas.  Dessert was a fabulous chocolate mousse (Rocky Mountain bittersweet from Lee's trips through Toronto airport, strong espresso and high grade vanilla)  that Our Ken commends.

Spring weather in NS

It was a bright and pleasant day at Regalridge.  Our Ken turned soil, used his new hoe and was as content as a gardener gets.  Tulips are blooming, crocus remain and the plum tree is resplendent - covered top to toe in bloom.  Leaves are beginning to fill out on early trees and late afternoon brought the sound of the mower.  The farm next door is haying; an early crop foretells a good season.  The birds have arrived for the summer - a flock of beautiful yellow finches seem to have decided to stay, the woodpeckers are delighted with the US suet cakes again added to their feeding station, the grosbeaks have decided to stay for the season as have a selection of doves.  There are song sparrows and the eternal blue jays.  To this point, we have not identified our red finch-like addition.   Chantelle was in and out through the day on her way to and from work and classes, choking down the odd cup of coffee as she came and went.

The kennel is perking along.  Marged and Shillelagh are holding the fort, setting the rules and on alert for miscreants.  Coby steers a wide path around the little dictators.  Sarah and Lola have teamed up in yard four, getting good exercise with Trebia their recreation advisor.  Poe is taking life in stride, comfortably settled and totally disinterested in the Welsh input on offer.

The house dogs had major supervision duties.  Our Ken was in and out of the house - but also in and out of the garage, the kennel and every other area of the property.  Charlotte's legs are an inch shorter than they were yesterday.  Patti was up and about early and maintained a good level of activity until early evening.  Gabe expended great puppy energy and had a whale of a time doing it - often to Rocky's detriment.  Jack is back to his sunny self and enjoyed several good turns on the back deck, scattering birds from the feeders and overall in control of his environment as an ancient Welsh should be.  Piper does not let Lee out of her line of sight, trailing behind to ensure there is not a change of direction.  The only upset is the cat.  Einstein has taken over one of the favourite dog beds in the bedroom.  Piper, the early sleeper, gets her bed, Billy has his area, Marilla is pushy so has a bed but Lori loses the musical bed war.  She stands and stares at Einstein - he blinks back but settles deeply and purrs.  Not until she huffily moves to the rug next to the bed does Mr Cat decide to return to the bed to torture the humans.  Lori, by then settled, is too sleepy to move.  This too shall pass . . .

Dinner was gourmet burgers - it was simply time.

And back we are come

It has been a clement winter in Virginia, and then the Nova Scotians arrived.  There were lots of hours available for shopping since rain was the order of the day until the Regalridgemobile was packed for departure north.  At that point, the sun appeared to encourage the happy wanderers on their way.  Billy approved since he has never wanted to be a warm weather fellow.  His owners were less amused.  Still, it was a great visit and lots was accomplished.  A new fox now sits at the front door, top hat and smile welcoming visitors.  The flower barrels are planted and deck furniture positioned,  Remus is thankful, having wondered if his chairs would ever appear.  The little Welsh is understandably certain that he is on equal footing with all humans and settles in all available furniture, legs akimbo and taking in conversations with a glint in his eye.  Looking out the den door, he is settled in a chair on the deck through all good weather.  Lee judged a Specialty show in Maryland - fabulous venue and great Terriers.  Perhaps the greatest fun of the day was the puppy who realized in a blinding flash that there are more dogs in the world that look like him - that realization struck half way around the show ring.  With boundless enthusiasm, and a strong desire to see everyone at once, the best option to have that happen was to throw himself in the air and land on his back, four feet waving at those in front and behind.  Not quite finished, he wriggled his way out of his show lead, leaving an appalled owner holding an empty lead, gazing in stupefaction at her happy, free show dog.  Lee (moving at speed) managed to get to the pair, take the lead out of the frozen owner's hand and flip the heavy, considerable youngster, telling him that he must stay on his pins.  On with the show . . .  The audience roared its appreciation.  With luck, and by Christmas, the exhibitor will see the humour in the situation she encountered.

The kennel has remained busy.  Sir Jack was in residence and woofed his way through a couple of weeks of camp.  Teaching Coby all that he has learned in his considerable life was his mission and it was well carried through.  Coby greatly appreciates the tutelage.  Maxifer also departed, rested up and ready for a little surgery - keeping his position as the priceless fellow that he has become.  As Ken notes, Maxifer is really a fabulous fellow, willing to go along with the application of ointments and unguents, the addition of his boots and anything else that is on offer.  Poe is settled in for a good visit and enjoying the exercise yards, as is his wont.  Marged and Shillelagh are once again moved in, encouraging all to enjoy their day, and night and to stay between the lines.

The house dogs are well and happy.  Piper is delighted to have her person home, knowing that she does not need to be reminded of who is top dog.  There is a rumour that other dogs were treated a bit too well and that Princess Piper was not suitably worshipped.  Hard to believe.  Patti is thriving.  Up and about, running up and down the drive and keeping an eye on the youngsters, she is better than she has been in a long while.  Dog food has returned to her repertoire and her appetite seems boundless.  Life is good.  Rocky is not amused at Billy's return.  His free and easy life without Billy's encouragement has again come to an end.  He looks forward to the next packing of the vehicle.

Meals in Virginia were fabulous.  Lots of crab was consumed - the best having been in Maryland at the very convenient restaurant across from the hotel.  Still, the survey continued through Richmond and the Jefferson brunch offered up a passable second.  As a reminder to those passing through Richmond, The Jefferson Hotel is a fabulous spot, a piece of the Old South with the stairway after which the Gone With The Wind staircase was modelled.  Designed with Jefferson's nod to France, there are Jefferson domes, columns and rotundas that take a second and third look.  The art is outstanding and the restaurant one of the best.  The Sunday brunch is the center of all things Richmond - champagne abounds - what more needs be said, except, perhaps, to not miss the spoonbread.

Just to say "Thank You" to everyone at Regalridge for looking after our quirky Lord Tippy!

Loved the blogs and pictures. Still going through the honeymoon period at the moment - have a feeling tomorrow's going to be our day of punishment!

We will be attending a wedding in June, so when we've got dates, I will be in touch for Tippy and his mobile palace to be booked in again.

Once again thank you very much for taking care of him. You have really put my mind at rest, that I can now go on holiday and leave him somewhere safe.

I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful love and care you provided for my 'babies'. They are quite tired after all their 'management' and I never thought Lilly could get
tired . It is a wonderful feeling when you can leave your dogs and know they are well loved and cared for.

I hope all goes well with the remodeling and your gardening. I am sure we will speak again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will my dog stay?
It is important to know what your dog’s temporary living space will be like. Dogs are housed in individual runs. There is an inner section within a heated building and an outer section protected by a roof. There is a trap door to separate the two sections. This door is closed at night and controlled in the winter in order to keep the inside of the kennel warm and cozy. The roof over the runs allows the dogs to be outside even during bad weather while keeping them dry.

Will my dog be walked?
We find that walking the dogs is unnecessary as we have four large exercise yards, which allow the dogs to have daily exercise. The dogs are out in the yards a minimum of three times a day (morning, mid-afternoon and evening) to allow them to exercise and do their business. As long as your dog gets along with other dogs than we will allow him/her to play with other dogs staying with us. Sometimes one of our resident dogs enjoys the opportunity to visit with our guests.

What will my dog eat?
Boarding can be stressful for your dog, even if he/she is accustomed to it. A change in diet can add to the stress on his/her body, possibly resulting in diarrhea or vomiting. Bringing your dog’s regular food is the best way to prevent this. As long as your dog does not have a sensitive stomach than he/she can eat the meals provided, we feed various Purina brands. Every evening the dogs enjoy a dog biscuit before settling down for the night.

Will my dog be allowed to interact with other dogs?
We offer daily sessions where the dogs are permitted to play together in our exercise yards. As long as your dog gets along with other dogs than we will allow him/her to play with other dogs staying with us. Sometimes one of our resident dogs enjoys the opportunity to visit with our guests.

What happens if my dog becomes sick or injured?
Depending on the severity of the illness/injury, we will make all efforts to contact the owner to notify you that we are concerned about your dog and want to take him/her to the vet. We prefer to take him/her to our vet as we have a long-standing relationship with him.

How much is this going to cost?
Part of planning for a vacation includes budgeting for your dog’s accommodations. We charge for the first day no matter what time the dog arrives but will not charge for the day your dog leaves as long as it is before 12 noon. As most of the time is spent with your dog during daylight hours, you will be charged by the day. Please contact us for the current rates at (902) 883-1494.

Will my dog get dirty?
Probably…unfortunately your dog may not come home as clean as when you left him/her. We put the dogs outside for regular playtimes and sometimes (like children) it is a lot of fun to kick up dirt and mud. You can request that your dog be bathed before returning home as long as you give sufficient notice and there will be an additional cost.

Can I pick up my dog at night?
Having a boarding facility in your home is not always a 9 to 5 business however; we do try to allow time for relaxation with family and friends. We have set hours for pick up and delivery and request that you try to respect those hours. We understand that it is not always possible but our days start early and like you…look forward to those quiet times when we can just enjoy our time with the dogs. Thank you for confirming in advance your appointment for dropping off/picking up your dog.

What can I bring?
We will provide your dog with bedding and dishes. You can bring your dog’s food and treats if you prefer (they will be provided if not). Toys are permitted but cannot always promise that they will return in the same condition that they arrived. Sometime toys are shared amongst visitors (much like children sometimes) or taken out to the exercise yards and forgotten…

Things to remember…

Phone and set up times to drop off and pick up your dog.

To bring proof of vaccines.

When you bring your dog in for boarding, remember his/her food, special instructions, and any other permitted items.

Do not bring items that you absolutely need to get back, as they could become lost or damaged. Bear in mind that many facilities limit personal items for this reason.

Make sure to leave contact numbers for you on your trip, plus local emergency contacts in case you cannot be reached.

Relax! You’ve done your research and your dog is in good hands. Enjoy your vacation!
